I believe the best way for students to learn is by doing and discovering the material hands on as oppose to being lectured to. I like to instruct demonstrate the learning material to my students intially, but after that i prefer to have my students try the material themselves so they can see and understand what aspects of the material they dont understand. I go through all the concepts with the individual pertaining to what portion of statistics they are studying at that time. I will then walk them through a couple of examples demonstrating how to properly obtain the correct answer. I will follow that up by asking them to do a problem without any direct instruction from me. I will watch them work on the problem to assure they are working on it properly. If any mistakes are made I will politely point them out as the individual is working. Finally, I will ask them to work on problems completely on their own and I will check their answers when they are done. I feel the only way to learn statistics, or any math for that matter, is through repetition and working on a lot of problems.

The hardest thing about teaching is determining how the individual student learns. I have found that all people learn differently so it is best to understand this process to make the teaching more effective. I like to challenge the individuals I tutor. I believe individuals perform best when they have to work hard for success. At the same time, I am easy-going, amiable and tend to get along with many different types of individuals.
I graduated from UW-Madison with a Finance degree and my MBA degree with an Investment Management focus at UW-Milwaukee in December of 2009. I tutored for nearly two years while at UW-Madison and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
