Since I find Biochemical processes so exciting, it is easy for me to get other students excited about them as well. Many students feel that the sciences are boring and dull. However, when I explain the processes to the students in their own terms instead of the textbooks they begin to realize that it can be fun! The first step to getting a student to understand the natural sciences is to spark some interest. This can be done through visual aids, models and a variety of other non-tradtional approaches.

When tutoring, I feel it is best to sit back and review the student's work and watch him/her in action. Once I have established where he/she needs work, I show the student a different way of looking at the problem(s). I use their motivations to demonstrate the value of learning the subject in which he/she struggles. I show the student different perspectives, diagrams, and use additional resources such as quiz games. I let the student know that he/she is not alone in his/her struggle. I become more of a peer as I let them know that I too have had tutors and was even placed in a special needs class as a child. As the bond grows, it becomes easier for the student to relax, absorb the information, and put it into practice.
