I am a College Student studying English and Politics

I am a very firm believer that each human being has a different way of learning. I also believe that each subject has a different way to be taught. I teach based off of my students, as well as the subject.
I was a tutor in high school for many elementary and middle school aged children. I am also experienced with writing papers, so I can help anyone who is writing for a college application or essay. I am a very quick learner, so if there is a subject I am not as familiar with I am willing to study it to help a student. My goal is to help students understand the context being taught, as well as teach them the importance of this knowledge. I have often used the phrase "When will I ever need this?" and I have learned later on in life that each subject is important. My job is not to give students answers, but to push them to articulate better and give better answers. I teach not by lecturing but by discussion; together we work through problems and questions. By showing students (gently) where their thinking could be improved without giving them the actual answers, I push students to solve problems on their own. My teaching style is the same as my parenting style. Establishing high expectations and an environment where students are provided the academic tools they need, as well as care and concern, have been the keys to my success. I have learned that all children strive to please their parents, and their teachers when they know that the teacher is invested in their success. A Little Bit About Me...

As someone who entered teaching later in life, I began where most of my education to that point allowed, as a social studies teacher. I taught 5 years as a middle school social studies teacher. Recently ,I added middle school math certification and taught middle school math for a year. My tutoring experience has primarily been working after class with my students.
My teaching style has been a product of working primarily with middle school kids. I believe that the hands on approach is the best way to reach these students. Using visual aids, manipulatives, foldables, and other materials provided can be extremely useful tools to reach them.
