A Little Bit About Me...

I began my teaching career by substituting and volunteering at the local schools. I then completed my degree in Middle Grades Education in Social Science. When I began teaching, I taught Reading 3 of the 5 years I taught and fell in love with it. I am currently trying to complete my Reading Endorsement and follow up with a Reading Specialist degree.
I am a firm believer that all students can learn if given the proper tools and learning experiences. I am a native of Puerto Rico. I learned English as a second language at the age of 11 years old. I recall the difficulty I had in learning the English language while at the same time trying to make it through the 5th grade. The task was frustrating and often overwhelming. The few teachers who made the effort to tutor me individualy were the ones who made the difference in my academic life. I would like to put my experience to use as a tutor who once walked a mile in the shoes of a young person who is striving to excell but is having difficulties due to a language barrier.
As a former U.S.Army academics instructor, I have taught several hundred students from many countries in South and Central America as well as Mexico.
