A Little Bit About Me...

I love to teach and see the ideas light up the eyes of the person who suddenly got a concept. I think teaching should be adaptable and should fit the learning style of the student. Visual tasks, memory games, and hands-on-learning are, in my opinion, the best way to help someone truly learn (versus rote memory). I think that with the right guidance and put in the right environment, anyone can learn. I look forward to being that "right guidance."
I attended several schools to achieve my undergraduate degrees, both of which I worked hard to excel at the University level. Attending graduate school at Binghamton University truly prepared me for academia, requiring many research papers and essays as well as honing my knowledge in psychology, the arts, human development, english, and biology. I am a visual learner, and so my first approach to teaching is using visual aids. I usually draw, use diagrams, or try to paint a mental picture for my students of what I'm trying to teach them. I am excellent at explaining complex terms so any layperson can understand them. I have only worked with teenage/young 20s people, so have less experience with a younger crowd. I have learned teaching college students that if one teaching approach doesn't work, try another! I am willing and able to explain the same concept as many ways as needed for someone to understand. My students at BU rarely left my classroom confused.

As an undergraduate, I spent nearly three years assisting groups of students with how to learn content for the historically difficult courses of College Chemistry I and II. I have my BS in Nuclear Medicine Technology, which permitted me to learn and acquire a great understanding in multiple areas. These areas include biology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, algebra, statistics, and beginning and intermediate levels of Spanish . In February 2011, I will be finished my MBA in Healthcare Management, which has broadened my knowledge in business courses, such as economics, accounting, marketing and finance.
