My comments on tutoring Economics : My undergrad major. I also tutored for many years in Economics and worked as an Economics Teacher's Assistant at the University of San Francisco.

Style is one-on-one. The tutoring is flexible to accommodate different people's styles. However, tutoring is what one makes of it.

My teaching style is casual and hands-on. I start with a discussion of the subject matter from a big picture perspective, to underscore the significance of the issue from an overall business management perspective. I move on to a discussion of definitions and fundamental concepts. I tend to communicate graphically, and enjoy drawing diagrams and charts. Next, I would move into an example illustrating the concept using very simple numbers. When tutoring, I feel it is best to sit back and review the student's work and watch him/her in action. Once I have established where he/she needs work, I show the student a different way of looking at the problem(s). I use their motivations to demonstrate the value of learning the subject in which he/she struggles. I show the student different perspectives, diagrams, and use additional resources such as quiz games. I let the student know that he/she is not alone in his/her struggle. I become more of a peer as I let them know that I too have had tutors and was even placed in a special needs class as a child.
