Over the last three years I have worked in Hillsborough County as a Middle School Science Teacher. After three years of teaching Science I had a strong desire to work with ESE and Special Needs children so I became a Sub for Hillsborough County so I could travel where need and work with various children. Prior to teaching in FL, I taught in SC and provided reading pull out in WV. During my time in WV I worked on a dual Masters in Literacy and Elementary Education, but was unable to finish it due to lack of aid. One of the reasons I liked math when I was a student myself was because there is always one right answer. However, what I love to teach my students is that there are always multiple ways to find that answer. I often demonstrate several ways to solve a problem and look out at my students and see their “light bulbs” go off at different points of the lesson. Because children all learn differently and at different speeds, I think it is important to take the time to expose them to various methods of problem solving.
