When students come in with questions, I will first ask them what subject is it for, does the teacher give out any guidelines about the assignment, and what difficulties you have with this assignment. When explaining concepts to students in classes that I sub-taught I felt the best approach was to talk to individual students and use a whiteboard to clearly explain the concepts. I usually would give hints or start the problem, and then I would look for the student to add insight on how to progress. I also feel that teaching is an adaptive process and each student has their own learning personality that the teacher needs to recognize and adjust to.
