A Little Bit About Me...

I tend to prefer a Socratic method of teaching where the student discovers the answer through discussion, reading and research. I will use direct instruction on occassion when the need arises but my classroom is typically humming with group work and whole class discussions.
I have been teaching social studies in Cabarrus County for the past 12 years. I am nationally board certified and have my AP certification in World History. I am a College Student studying English and Politics

I am a very firm believer that each human being has a different way of learning. I also believe that each subject has a different way to be taught. I teach based off of my students, as well as the subject.
I was a tutor in high school for many elementary and middle school aged children. I am also experienced with writing papers, so I can help anyone who is writing for a college application or essay. As someone who entered teaching later in life, I began where most of my education to that point allowed, as a social studies teacher. I taught 5 years as a middle school social studies teacher. Recently ,I added middle school math certification and taught middle school math for a year. My tutoring experience has primarily been working after class with my students.
My teaching style has been a product of working primarily with middle school kids. I believe that the hands on approach is the best way to reach these students. Using visual aids, manipulatives, foldables, and other materials provided can be extremely useful tools to reach them. Being actively involved in the learning process allows students to learn while they do not realize it.
