I love teaching chemistry and science classes - I am very patient in teaching and attempt to relate the subject to everyday occurences. I believe that all can learn if given the opportunity and drive - people are afraid of the sciences because of the unknown - I bring the unknown to a common place. I love showing examples and bringing the laboratory portion into the class to relate to what is occuring - sometimes chemisty is fearful as it seems to be alot of math - it is but it can be used to help in other subjects. While an undergraduate at Maryland I tutored students and helped my friends in chemistry and math. When I went to Graduate School I taught lab and two discussion sections, making sure the students understood the lecture material from the Professor. I have knowledge in general chemistry as well as extensive knowledge of Organic Chemistry. I tutored my daughter by helping her understand the underlying reasons for a reaction vs. just memorizing a huge list of organic reactions.
My style is to focus on the reason for a reaction so you can extrapolate what will happen with materials your have not seen before. This was the technique used when I took graduate level organic courses at Maryland.

While at Salisbury University, I studied Environmental Issues and firmly believe in the theory I learned that education in the beginning for everything. I have always loved learning, and as a result, I also pursued a minor in Chemistry, for the sheer love of science. Immediately after college, I spent the summer teaching riding lessons at a camp in Colorado. In the evenings, I took off my cowboy boots and spent my time acting as co-counselor in a cabin full of elementary to middle school aged girls, depending on the session.
