A Little Bit About Me...

I have a lot of hands on in the field of Biology and Marine Biology. I have volunteered with a number of wildlife sanctuaries. Growing up I always loved nature, the outdoors, and gardening. This drove me to get education in the biological sciences. I have a BS in Plant Sciences/Agronomy and a Doctorate of Plant Medicine degree (a new graduate program) both from the University of Florida. I am well educated and experienced to teach/tutor in the subjects of biology, botany, natural sciences, microbiology, english, scientific writing as well as laboratory coursework. During my sophomore year in college, I tutored a 10th grader in geometry for two semesters. I also tutored him and one of his peers for one semester in Algebra II. I then got a job as a laboratory teaching assistant. I taught laboratories for non-biology majors for 2 years, which gave me the ability to explain the subject matter in a concise way that the students could understand. I also became proficient in making detailed lesson plans according to the curriculum suggested for each lab session. During my time as a teaching assistant, I also worked as an upper level biology tutor. I tutored majors and non-majors in Biology 103 (non majors), 110 (Biology I), and 111 (Biology II).

I have taken courses such as Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Physics and Comparative Anatomy, and Mammailian Physiology. I also taught the labs for the Microbiology for three years and also taught the labs for Comparative Anatomy for a year. I have a deep passion for the sciences so my bachelor’s degree in biology was a natural fit. I discovered while working in a graduate program that I also love to teach. I had the opportunity to teach real world science to high school students, which I enjoyed immensely. I learned a lot about different teaching styles and took a course in inquiry learning. I taught the college freshmen biology labs at my graduate school and I have mentored high school and college students in several laboratories I have worked in. I have always been an individual who loved learning and have always enjoyed helping others achieve educational goals to their highest ability. During high school I tutored junior high students in math and science. As an undergraduate at Mississippi State University I was employed as a junior and senior to teach biology labs to class sizes of 30-40. I have a BS in Biology and have had a career in clinical research.
There is nothing more thrilling than to see the self esteem of a child or adult grow with sucess in an area that is challenging.
