My comments on tutoring Writing Skills : I've always had strong writing skills. I've written several scientific dissertations and papers to fairly high praise. In my free time, I write music and stand-up comedy. I'm also currently developing and writing a potential science fiction TV series to pitch to production executives.

I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. However, my friends were struggling. They hated me a bit for how easy it came to me. I decided to tutor them and help them with homework assignments and studying. They ended up doing very well on the exams, allowing them to secure a 3.0 or higher in the course. I also had to regular help my classmates out with more complex problems in Physics. I was not so much tutoring as working together with them on the homework, but still, it involved clear explanation and a thorough knowledge of the subject matter.

My teaching style depends on the student and subject I'm dealing with. For the non-reading adults I started by teaching them letter recognition and basic sounds; moved on to simple words; then sentances. During my college class I would review the evening's lesson and goals, then have the students perform the exercise in the textbooks. During the practical exercise I made myself available to all the students and gave one-on-one instruction to those that needed it.
I taught all subjects for adult learners preparing for the GED tests through Region IX Education Services Center's Adult Education program for 4 years in the evenings. A Little Bit About Me...

Towards the end of my college career I assisted in "Community New Start" in Austin, TX which was a mentor program assisting high school children in under-privileged districts. I assisted with basic math and English material. A few months later a group of us from the University of Texas assisted in the "Reagan High School" project, where the district was considering closing the school down due to failing TAKS scores, mainly in reading comprehension and math. Every person learns a bit differently.
