An intellectual and goofy tutor looking to help out.

I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. However, my friends were struggling. They hated me a bit for how easy it came to me. I decided to tutor them and help them with homework assignments and studying. They ended up doing very well on the exams, allowing them to secure a 3.0 or higher in the course. I also had to regular help my classmates out with more complex problems in Physics. I was not so much tutoring as working together with them on the homework, but still, it involved clear explanation and a thorough knowledge of the subject matter.

I have worked with adults. I prefer a one on one direct instruction and mentoring, keeping everything simple and fun. I am not sure how well I would be with children; I have none of my own and have not spent much time with my nephews and nieces. I teach students from where they are! Sometimes there are gaps and holes in past learning that can be filled in before the student can soar. I am very personable, encouraging and understand how intimidating the blank page or the prospects of taking a standardized test can be.
I have over 25 years of experience as a high school and college English instructor. I have a bachelor degree in English education and a masters in liberal arts with 18 graduate hours in English. I began and operated my own private, fully accredited high school, test prep and tutoring companies.
