I spent a year overseas right out of high school tutoring my cousins. Later, after college, I volunteered to teach Spanish at a "homeschool" in Oregon for 3 months, then spent 6 months teaching Spanish then guitar at Lane Community College. I was assistant teacher for 2 years at a Christian preschool in Kennewick, WA. I have taught private lessons for 4 or 5 years altogether in the various places I have lived, teaching piano, guitar, voice and Spanish. Once I even taught English as a second language for a while. I have been teaching for the last fifteen years. I started my teaching career in the junior high grades and then decided that my preference would be with the younger children. I have taught both second and third grade and throughly loved both levels. I have attended various classes and workshops relating to helping children learn to read and love doing it. I have had seven years of experience in working with children of all ages. While attending the University of North Dakota, I was employed at a child care center where I taught children from nine months to five years of age. I completed my student teaching in Sioux Falls and substitute taught in the district from December 2007-May 2008. During my substitute teaching experience, I was given an opportunity to obtain a long-term position in a resource room. This experience really allowed me to see to the diverse group of learners there are in the Sioux Falls School District.
