Noel A. Aerospace/Mechanics of Materials Engineering Tutor,

I studied Aerospace Fluids and Mechanics of Materials Engineering at the University of Minnesota, for both my bachelor's degree and my master's degree. I made the Dean’s Honor List (4.0) in my last year at Minnesota. While I was in the graduate school program, I worked at ROSEMOUNT Engineering Co. in the Aerospace department, where my first project was the design of the SR71 “BLACKBIRD” Frontal Pitot-Static system. I now teach students how to easily pass undergraduate and graduate elasticity (Mechanics of Materials) courses, fluidic aerospace technology, and vibration/shock in aerospace (a must to be considered for jobs in Aerospace). Also, I can get you there quickly with 18+ years of experience in all FEA software-PATRAN, ANSYS, FEMAP, etc. (another must for aerospace industry jobs) and I have software for those who need it to use it, temporarily. A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored my peers throughout high school, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge of mathematics with others. During high school, I scored a perfect score of 800 on both SAT II Math Level 2 and Korean. I am currently attending Normandale with a major in Liberal Arts with Emphasis in Mathematics. I hope to transfer to a 4 year university to double major in economics and mathematics.
I am very patient especially for students who learn slower than others because I was always a slow learner myself. I am very happy to repeat myself or go over other examples to help the student understand the concept. I also like to emphasize concept over memorization. Of course, math has a good amount of memorization, and yes, it is important; however, I believe that learning concept is more useful than sheer memorization, and understanding a concept is better than memorizing formulas and properties.

My background in Atmospheric Sciences gives me a good base in science and math. I feel my skills will allow me to tutor with both science and math classes, including Calculus I and II classes. I have spent over a year at Project for Pride for Learning in Minneapolis tutoring low income people on basic and moderate computer skills and job searching advice when I was an volunteer there from May 2008 to July 2009.
I have a positive approach to teaching. I am very patient when I go through the lessons and go back and review any older material if it is needed in order to grasp the current lesson of the day. I work hard to make the content stick and I always enjoy to see that light of realization in their eyes when they grasp the concept I am teaching them.

More About This Tutor...

I've been told I have a great capacity for making complex ideas more understandable. This is why students seeking Math help at my University would ask for me specifically, I can take a complicated concept and explain it in a way that makes it seem much simpler, and when one approach doesn't work, I go again from a different direction. My goal is always to make the student understand the process and reasoning, not just memorize a method. I am approachable and patient, and I can adapt to any learning style. My favorite part of being a tutor is seeing that spark of understanding in a student's face.
I have helped my fellow students learn for nearly as long as I've been learning, myself. While attending Community College, I worked as a Peer Tutor in a wide range of subjects. While attending University, I worked as a General Subject Tutor and as a Math Tutor. I studied abroad in South K ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

This past year I graduated magna cum laude from Carleton College with a Bachelor’s in History and Medieval Studies. I have studied abroad at Oxford University, and in Rome and Romania, and have a lot of experience in writing research reports and essays. As a student of the liberal arts I have studied a wide variety of subjects, from theology to environmental science, from Old English to statistics and am comfortable in almost any subject. During this past academic year I tutored a home schooled child one on one several hours a week in world history and research methodology; I was in effect his sole teacher in the subject and also helped him improve his writing and study skills. For the past four years I have taught chess to children aged six to ten, emphasizing analytical skills.

I am a very motivating teacher. I encourage my students to strive to do their best with the philosophy that they will be amazed at what they can accomplish. I try to get my students excited about the maaterial by incorporating fun stories, experiments, videos, or examples into the material. I am very patient and believe that repitition is a key to learning. I like to repeat what I am teaching in many different ways before my students are tested on the material; this seems to be successful.
My first experience tutoring was in 8th grade when my 6th grade math teacher asked me to help some of his struggling students. I greatly enjoyed the experience and wanted to continue. I didn't get another chance to tutor until my freshman year of college. I volunteered to help a young man who could not take notes for himself. As the semester progressed, he asked for my help in understandi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I understand that each student is an individual, and I like to get to know him/her as a person. The more I am able to connect with the student, the more successful we will be in achieving academic success! My teaching style is adaptable to the student. Some students need help focusing, extra practice, a boost in confidence or the subject explained in a different way for comprehension. The beauty of tutoring is you are able tailor the material and style to the individual learning ability of the student, unlike in the classroom where you must serve the entire group.
I grew up in a household that valued education and creative learning. As a result, I have always been driven to do my very best in all subject areas. I officially started tutoring in 2002, at Southwest Minnesota State University. My initial subjects were Algebra and Finite Math. Since then, I have tutor in a number of sub ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

While tutoring in the Lake Superior learning center. I enjoyed tutoring the students. I would help the student break down the math problem step by step and explain the process. I would then sit with them and encouragement them to complete the next problem on their own. If they got stuck I would give assistance, through asking them questions or trying to help them remember the mathematical steps. If all else failed I would show them the process again, slowly and in a mater that would not discourage them.
As an undergraduate at Lake Superior College, I worked in the campus learning center. I tutored in Mathematics. Since 1994, I have been working with 6th through 12th grade students in nearly every academic area. I have appreciated the many opportunities to prepare students for the ACT, develop mathematic computation skills, master the Microsoft office programs and speak with clarity.

A Little Bit About Me...

My background is in mathematics and science. I have a Ph.D. in applied mathematics and a bachelors degree in math and physics. I’ve had experience teaching and tutoring calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and high school math.
It is my goal to help my students improve their problem solving skills. In addition to learning mathematical techniques, I want them to be able to identify the key points of a problem and decide which solution method is best. I hope that they come away from my tutoring sessions enjoying math and feeling more confident about their abilities to use math both in school and in real world situations.
