I am a friendly, out going person who is very invested in my students work. I believe that to write well one must have a relationship with the content that matters to him or her. I enjoy learning about a person and taking on a mentorship role as well as a direct and focused editing role. I have extensive experience tutoring and mentoring students in creative writing and composition arenas. As lead teaching assistant for entry-level undergraduate Creative Writing courses at Oberlin College, I facilitated small group workshops, provided students with feedback on their writing, and wrote lesson plans designed to help each individual improve technically as a writer. I really enjoy engaging the student in discussion of the topic and helping them experience the events in History rather than just remembering dates and locations. I am currently pursuing a degree in secondary education with a specialization in American History. I have a passion for the subject and for helping students succeed. I just completed my practicum last fall and was active in a 10th grade World History class for about 10 hours a week. During the summer of 2011 I was employed at girl scout camp in Lake George where I planned and taught History lessons for our weekly programs. I taught grades 6 - 12 for a variety of subjects including, but not limited to Social Studies, Spanish, English, Music, and Special Education.
