A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is one in which I strive to engage students in the subject by both instructing and challenging them to think on their own. I also strive to accomplish this goal in such a manner that the student experiences the fun that is a part of learning, but one that also emphasizes the importance of the learning process as well. In all of my tutoring and teaching experiences, I communicate how critical good study habits are: self-discipline; finding a quiet place to study; punctuality; attention to detail; following the rules; etc.
As a person who holds both a BA and MA in English, each with concentrations in writing (creative and technical, respectively), I am qualified to, and have for several years, tutored English language studies skills, including composition, grammar, punctuation, and reading comprehesion, to students from the third grade through college. I taught all subjects for adult learners preparing for the GED tests through Region IX Education Services Center's Adult Education program for 4 years in the evenings. I also taught English as a Second Language to adults. I am an Adult reading tutor for adults who could not read. I taught mathematics, vocabulary and biology to high school graduates preparing to take the nursing entrance exam at Vernon College. I also taught basic computer classes in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite for Vernon College's Wichita Falls campus for 4 years. I had one or two evening classes each semester. I worked full time during the day as a Veterans' Employment Representative for Texas Workforce Commission.
