My comments on tutoring Government : I have taken classes in college about government and have provided tutoring in this area.

My teaching style consists of a combination of direct instruction, active student participation, and frequent and differentiated assessment. I begin by presenting students with the information they will need to know for the unit that they are studying. I do this through the use of PowerPoint presentations, the SmartBoard, and video clips. I will often stop at several points throughout the lesson to see if students have any questions. I will also make sure that they are paying attention and will ask them questions about information they just learned, so I expect them to be paying attention and taking notes. Throughout the unit, I offer students plenty of opportunities to show me what they know through a variety of different formative assessments, such as textbook activities, homework, Tickets-Out-The-Door, group activities, presentations, and review game. At the end of the unit, I ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have been tutoring for many years with different kinds of children. To begin with, I tutored my younger sister starting when she was about seven years old to age twelve or thirteen. In high school, I also volunteered for an after-school program for Hispanic children ages seven-twelve where I helped them with their homework in various subjects. In addition, I spent about four months tutoring a severely autistic child, teaching him different communication skills and helping him to form patterns. I have always been an 'A' student and I excel in math, science, English, foreign languages, and history. I am best with math and science for elementary up to ninth or tenth grade students, yet I can tutor students in history, reading, and English for all ages. I earned my bachelor's degree in communications, so I have learned to master social studies and the English language by writing copi ... read more

More About This Tutor...

When I had the opportunity to design and teach a Vo-Tech. School program from the ground up, I realized my love and passion for teaching and making a difference in the lives of my students. Being semi-retired with lots of time available, I am living out my passion by substitute teaching middle and high school students in my local school district. With a rich science and english background, I feel I can make a difference by helping those less fortunate academically in many areas.
I have a passion for teaching students of all ages, especially 4th grade and up. My teaching style consists of involving the students as much as possible in the learning process because I am a firm believer that students do learn from one another - especially when one student becomes a mentor or reciprocal teacher for another. Discussions are very important because they allow for free expression of opinions ... read more

More About This Tutor...

My teaching style is probably best described as interactive. I encourage students to not only read the assignment and the assigned homework, but to question the validity of the issues being discussed, including what the author has written. By having student examine the issues and using critical thinking, they become better academics, but develop the ability to think outside of the box
Over the course of my career, I have taught at just about every level, from middle school to graduate school. I initially started teaching computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. My area of study is really in history and social studies where I worked with students on improving their composition and essay writing skills as well as organization and study skills for adolescents and adults. I currently have two AP students that I tutor and have worked with the Army and Navy in developi ... read more
