My comments on tutoring Literature : Have a good knowledge of American & World Literature as well as. I have completed 7 courses in this subject matter

I believe that a student should have the time to figure things out on their own, but with guidance from their tutor or teacher. I think I should provide a student with all the tools they need, and then through example I will teach a student to figure things out for themselves. There is no other way that I know of to quickly build the confidence of a student and the belief in one's self, than to teach a student how to figure out problems on their own. It is a very uplifting and life changing experience for a student to finally have confidence in self. My role is to encourage, guide, and correct when they may be going in the wrong direction while learning.
Most all of my experience in life has been in business, Corporate America. However, I have always been a teacher at heart. I spent several years as a student tutor while I was attending college, both in the classroom and during my ... read more

English and literature major. I work in the medical field but continue to use my journalism and proper grammar, as well as, use spelling and encourage the hobby of reading and comprehension to my own children. I love teaching and learning new things and believe it should be a fun experience. I have an 8 year old daughter and a mother currently taking college courses so I have learned a great deal of patience over the years and developed a relaxed, happy personality.
In 2005 I graduated from the University of West Florida, earning a BA in psychology with a 3.5 GPA. During that time I was vice president of an on-campus meditation group that lead people in meditation and relaxation techniques. I have assisted many people with tutoring for various types of academic and placement tests, e.g, ASVAB, ACT and SAT, as well as college placement tests for english and math. A Little Bit About Me...

Variety is good! I enjoy working with students of all backgrounds, personalities, and academic levels. I have come to realize that we learn differently. What works with one student may not work for another, so I try to stay as creative, open-minded, and instructionally flexible as possible. I have also realized that most students want to do their best but find it difficult with the distractions and hindrances of everyday life, so I strive to engage students' full attention though a variety of games, activities, and projects. What I love about tutoring (that traditional classroom teaching doesn't always offer) is that I am able to give my students 100% of my attention for the duration of the study period.
Though I graduated with a BS in Secondary English Education, I have tutored and worked with students from elementary to secondary levels. From 2003-2008 I taught English and a ... read more

My teaching-style is rigorous yet kind. My students say that no one has ever criticized their writing and thought so thoroughly and constructively. I'm known for my patience working with students with foreign-language backgrounds and other disabilities such as a lack of attention and focus. I learned from my professors at Swarthmore College (and a few at Penn) how to project a non-B.S. style, since kids tend to intuitively realize when their teacher has no idea what he/she is talking about. Coming from a family of teachers and professors (who have also been my teachers), I'm confident that good teaching is in my bones. I never use technology just for the sake of using technology.
I became a published author of game reviews for a computer magazine at age 15. I worked at the University of Pennsylvania in Chemical Engineering under an Army Research Office grant, then as a software dev ... read more

As a graduate student in Sociology at Wichita State University, I was able to explore my passion for human behavior with great detail and rigor. During this time, I was able to use SPSS extensively for statistics and data analysis for Crosstabs, Frequencies, T-tests, ANOVA, Correlations, Descriptives, Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, OLS Regression, and Weights. I also served as a graduate teaching and research assistant, which allowed me to tutor students on how to use SPSS while also applying SPSS for research projects and program evaluation.
I believe the fundamental goal of teaching is to foster learning. Learning takes place in many different circumstances and contexts. Although everyone is capable of learning, a student's desire to learn is a vital pre-condition to effectively mastering new concepts and skills. Teaching is so rewarding, there's nothing better than helping someone understand something they have struggled with in the past. I am a very patient person who loves to work with people. I also enjoy helping people overcome challenges. For example: when I worked at the accounting office my specialty was dealing with clients who had or have issues with the IRS. It was my favorite part of the job, especially when the issue was resolved! My teaching style is different for different people, everyone learns differently. The trick is to help people figure out the best way for them to catch on and retain the information. After finishing my masters I hope to teach at the high school or college level.
I finished my BA with concentrations in management and accounting at Troy University in 2007,then worked for three years in an Accounting Office. I left there in January 2010 to pursue my Mast ... read more

I have always been passionate about education. I pursued a double bachelor's degree in English and Spanish with the hopes of teaching the subjects one day. Indeed, I will, as in the fall I will begin graduate school to obtain my Masters in Spanish Secondary Education. With my English major, I not only perfected my grammatical skills but also my ability to write clearly and effectively, as I had to write many papers. As for my Spanish ability, I have been to Spain and Peru with my university, where I was able to practice my language abilities. During the course of my college years, I have tutored two ESL students in various subjects as well as assisted many students with writing papers and edited papers.

In step with my 8 years teaching in a Montessori School and being a special needs teacher, I am in tune and aware of many different learning styles. In my classroom I was very successful in adapting the curriculum to meet the needs of a diverse student population. I am patient, consistent and enjoy seeing my students strive to reach their full potential.

As a former U.S.Army academics instructor, I have taught several hundred students from many countries in South and Central America as well as Mexico. The academic program for these students was conducted exclusively in the Spanish language. I have received extensive education in technical terminology, lesson plan preparation, classroom conduct, and teaching aid operation. As a high school substitute teacher, I was able to implement my military experience into civilian use with a high degree of success.
I am a native of Puerto Rico. I learned English as a second language at the age of 11 years old. I recall the difficulty I had in learning the English language while at the same time trying to make it through the 5th grade. The task was frustrating and often overwhelming.
