EXPERT TUTOR-MultiSubject; Home/ONLINE; +WRITING instructor

As a tutor, I find that it is important to present the material to the students in a way that they can relate to. My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. My philosophy is that teaching is part knowledge, part communication, and part intuition. My intuition is necessary to understand where a student is getting stuck. I myself already understand the material; the challenge is to understand why a student does not. A variety of communicative teaching approaches is best. I have learned that different students respond to visual, auditory, or tactile methods. As always, continuous practice is extremely important. I also must ... read more

I recently graduated with my Bachelors from the University of Tennessee. My degree is in English, but I have tons of experience tutoring in just about everything. The ages I have tutored most is older elementary, middle, and high schools as well as college. I can especially help prepare students for college and help them succeed in college. Since I am closer to the age of the older students, it is much easier for me to connect with the students as well as help them with their needs. Thanks for the opportunity and consideration. Heather

I like to see where the student is and meet him there. Look at what needs to be taught and discover the best way to impart that learning to the individual child.
I have taught K for 13 years. I understand the value of one on one time, and that students are all different. Recently I spent 10 months teaching missionary children in Uganda. There I taught 4th, 5th, and 7th graders. Students in my class have had vision issues, autism, aspergers, and ADD/ADHD. With each situation, I have evaluated where the student was and revamped how I was teaching to meet their needs.

My comments on tutoring World History : Highly qualified k-8

Constructivist, multi-sensory, inquiry-based.
For 20 years I worked for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, as a fifth through 7th Grade classroom teacher. I taught all of the academic subjects in various combinations, sometimes all at once to a self-contained class. The State of Tennessee recognized me as "Highly Qualified" in all subjects, from Kindergarten through 8th Grade. I served on the district's math council for 5 years, helped direct the district's science fair one year, and worked extensively in the field of arts-based curriculum development. I also was trained in the IB curriculum, and implemented it for 10 years.

I love helping people, particularly children, reach their full potential by becoming life-long learners. Whenever I meet with a student, whether it be one-on-oe or in the classroom, I strive to identify his/her learning style and to create a connection to the lesson to his/her future experiences in the world beyond the classroom. I believe that education is the key to creating citizens with a sense of self-efficacy and a belief that one man or woman can make a differnce.
While earning my MA in English, I spent two years tutoring students in English and training/mentoring other tutors. For the last two years, I have been designing and delivering trianing curriculum. I have plans to return to Middle Tennessee State University in January 2012 to earn my PhD in Math and Science Education.

I have loved education and the process of learning since I was a child. Due to family issues, I dropped out at in the 9th grade but due to extensive reading most of my life on many subjects, and being gifted intellectually, thank God, I was enrolled in college at the age of 16. Due to my age, I lacked the discipline needed to succeed then so joined the Army at 18 and finished first in my class in their HS program. I continued going to college in the evenings an weekends until I completed my Master's degree, meanwhile raising 3 children and running a certified home daycare. I am currently a Realtor but am looking to enroll in a Doctoral program in Education. I am a "people" person as they say and get refueled helping others learn and figuring out a way for it to make sense students to overcome their barriers. I am comfortable with all subjects except the higher maths (trigonometry/ge ... read more

Teaching is gift and I enjoy being able to make a difference in a child's life. As a student in a system that strives for educational excellence, with a special focus on English and composition, I am quite adept at teaching the skills required for writing both as an extra curricular activity, and as a discipline. I took classes in high school education at CSU Sacramento, while I was working toward my bachelor's in English. I spent over 120 hours sitting in on elementary and secondary school classes, as a study. For two and a half years, I tutored students in math, science, English, social studies, reading comprehension, and writing.
It's important to me to be part of the development in a child's education because once they are equipped with the skills I can teach them, they will find life in the real world easier. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that teaching should be student-directed. Teachers should pique the curiosity of their students, and act as a resource for the acquisition of knowledge. Whenever possible, education should be hands-on, interactive and should always stimulate -- not bore -- the student.
I started out doing nanny work in college. After graduating in 1998, I moved to Detroit, Michigan to pursue a career in language studies. I became the Language Training Director for a language services company. I supervised a teaching staff of 150 instructors who gave language instruction to businessmen and women who were relocating for business purposes. We gave instruction in language and culture, while providing relocation help to families who were settling in the US. In 2002 I taught American Literature and Conversational English classes at Oral Roberts University's University Language Institute. In 200 ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been helping coach both Wrestling and Football for a large portion of my life. I have been involved in these sports for most of my life and have gained much experience in teaching over the past 9-10 years. I have recently graduated from Lawrence University, in Appleton, Wisconsin. Lawrence has been recognized as not only a top University in Wisconsin, but as a top private college in the nation.
I am an extremely patient person with an up-beat and enthusiastic personality. I strongly believe that children and really all people learn best by doing. You can only listen to someone explain what to do for so long before you lose interest. However, if you get your instructions, and then practice and apply those instructions you are able to stay more involved and alert.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love Children, I love people, and I love teaching! My Strength is Organization, and my weakness is Idealism. Since my background is in Banking and Finance, and Since Business is misperceived by students as difficult, monetary, scientific, boring, or useless, I want to demonstrate that Business is easy, daily life, a language, very necessary, and revelatory. So, the learning strategies that I will try to instill in each Tutee are self-esteem, critical thinking, problem solving, hard work, and commitment.

I have tutored friends and family for a number of years before I ventured into a formal setting. I worked for Sylvan Learning Center in Franklin providing math and reading help to school aged children. I've provided tutoring to adults who were learning to read. I have also provided tutoring services to college bound students preparing for the SAT/ACT.
I enjoy teaching and tutoring children. It is personally satisfying to have an impact on the way that a child learns and progresses. I possess a teaching style that is adaptable to the student's needs. I like to give words or encouragement and praise to a student during sessions. It is important to me to reinforce the positive rather than focus on the negative. I believe one has to ascertain how a student learns and adapt or modify the techniques utilized to get a point across. The great thing about tutoring is that a student ... read more
