Perhaps stemming from my time as the owner of a successful construction company, I've found that I learn best when I'm provided mental imagery, which often means the employment of analogies and metaphors. Cell biology became simplified when viewed as the textile manufacture and the subsequent distribution and utilization of the products. Due to being a non-traditional student I've also realized that patience is imperative. I've felt like instructors have given up on me in the past, only to keep forging ahead either by myself or with the aid of a tutor and eventually master whatever material was at hand. I am a question-answer type of teacher. I like to demonstrate, have them do, answer questions, clear up ambiguities, and then test or at least check to insure learning and understanding. I have a style of quiet, but firm expectations. I have a great amount of patience. I will do best with high school and college age students, and on occasion, with more mature middle school students.
I have been an "instructor"-teacher for over 15 years. I teach math, economics, finance, business, and management for several colleges. I have been a Boy Scoutmaster and merit bade counselor and have worked with youth for over 15 years.
