I believe that a good quiet environment with one on one help can open the door for every student to be successful. Failure is never an option for any child provided that he or she has the right access in the learning environment. I will start with the student whereever they are academically and get them to where they need to be. Reassuring and encouraging the students as we both achieve our goals.
I have been mentoring/tutoring students for the pass fifteen years in school,church or community environment. I have been choosen to work with the most difficult students. My expectations are high but has proven to have a high success rate. I have earned a BS in Human Services/Management and I am currently working on my Masters in Preschool Education. I have mentored students in Pre-K-6th grade. Also work on everyday life skills.

I have taught kindergarten through eighth grade special education for the last twenty years. I have had experience working with students who were struggling learners including my own child. Sometimes teaching means showing a different way to do it. I have learned the skills needed for students to learn and remember what they have learned. I have tutored many students and all have been successful in the classes they were being tutored.
Learning needs to have importance to a student. They need to understand why they need to learn the things they are being taught. Then it makes more sense to them. If possible, teach to their strengths. If they like computers, find a website that gives them practice. If they are better writers than listeners, have them dictate and read it back to you. As a special needs teacher, I have worked with many students who simply needed someone to show them a different way to learn the material. Learning can be made so much easier when taught in a format that is fun. This makes it enjoyable and more likely to be remembered. In a tutoring one-on-one kind of setting, times tables could be taught with a deck of cards and using the two numbers thrown out as the problem. Reading and writing can be done by taking pictures and creating a story from the pictures you have taken. It costs the price of a throw away camera and the students love it. I bleieve learning must be fun.
