I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Physical Science from California State University, Fresno. I received my first teaching experience as a substitute teacher. I next worked as a long-term substitute teacher for a year. I was then offered a full-time, permanent teaching position as a fourth grade elementary school teacher. This position lasted three years. I will never forget the joy I received each time one of my students learned something that they had been struggling with for some time. My desire to teach stems from my hopeful view of youth. During the past seven years I have been successful in promoting access to higher education to youth of diverse backgrounds by organizing educational workshops and/or working directly on school campuses. I have earned a B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in advertising and a minor in Chicano Studies, which has enabled me to gain skills in public speaking, creative writing and art. With every management position that I have had (Controller, Finance Director, VP of Finance), I have had to train assistants along with other accounting office personnel. The level of experience would exceed 25 years.
I believe in working aside the individual, explain a task to them, and let them do the work. I would offer assistance when asked or when I saw a problem. This would always depend on the individual that I was training. My 11-year old daughter is a straight A student because I worked with her at an early age with studies that were at least 1 - 2 years beyond her current year.
