After I graduated high school I went to a community college just to get the feel of college. I decided to major in speech because I was interested in correct speech. Not only how words were pronounced but also what mechanisms that are used to produce correct speech. I went on to Delta State University to pursue my Bachelor's in Speech and Hearing, and might I add they had a spectacular program. I learned a lot more than what makes a person have a speech disorder.
I tutored at the local elementary school for two summers straigth and absolutely loved it. Children are a joy to work with becuase they are eager to learn. I feel that if you make it interesting for a child then their learning experience becomes something that they won't forget.

A Little Bit About Me...

Determining the learning styles of individual students is important to me. I adjust and accomodate my approach based on how students respond and learn. Changing my methods and being creative help me reach students on many levels. I enjoy building on past knowledge, kinesthetic activities, and appealing to students interests.
I have been a teacher for the past five years. I have taught Language Arts and History. For the past two years I have taught 7th and 8th grade, but I have also taught 9th and 5th grade. I believe all children are born with the same amount of human potential. However, I’m disheartened by what I’ve witnessed in Mississippi’s public schools: that many children are failing to read at grade level. They are often “left behind.” My approach to teaching is driven by my belief that all children can learn if given the cognitive stimulation coupled with a nurturing, learning environment.
