My teaching style varies on the math background that the student has. Generally I try to provide the student with all the theory behind a concept (that I notice they are having a problem grasping)and challenge him or her to apply the knowledge in solving a problem by giving them clues as necessary. Successful application of definitions and theorems in problem solving is what demonstrates that the student has mastered the material.
