A Little Bit About Me...

I draw on a variety of teaching experiences that contribute to my success with students. My most recent position was teaching all subjects to grades K-4 in a self-contained classroom. We had a family atmosphere with an open door policy where parents could visit and talk with me before and after school any day of the week. Because I developed the curriculum, I have a thorough understanding of where a student should be presently, and where he is heading. A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate student, I had the opportunity to work as a tutor in the Writing Center of Andrews University. I assisted both undergraduate and graduate students and community members with various essays and papers, concentrating on grammatical correctness and content development. I also worked as the Ceramics Director at Camp Au Sable Youth Camp in Grayling, MI, teaching kids, teenagers and adult campers ceramics and managing the ceramics department. I love working with kids and work as a counselor for 6th through 8th grade students at my local church. A Little Bit About Me...

I taught H.S. chemistry I & II in the Indianapolis area from 2001-2005. Entering college at Western Michigan U, I had plans on becoming a teacher, but went into the analytical research laboratory. I decided to go back and get my teaching license because I have a passion for education. I believe that the learning experience is wonderful and chemistry/science excites me. My teaching style is to provide several ways to solve a problem. Since learning is done in different ways, one of the solution methods will turn on a light bulb and the student will "get it". I bring additional materials and new ways to remember. Last fall I tutored a fifth grader in mathematics. I provided note cards for him in the various solution formulas.
At Purdue University I took all Engineering degree mathematics courses. In addition, I took five statistical cources, three of them were graduate level. At AlliedSignal, I received a week's training to teach three day courses in Total Quality Leadership to employees. Over the course of one year, I conducted twenty four courses with a partner facilitator. One company I worked for was a supplier to Caterpillar. In the course of mutual problem solving, I was able to be certified as a Green Belt.
