Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. Science is not the easiest of concepts to grasp so in order to enhance student learning I input a bit of humor into my lesson. I am very good at creating analogies to scientific processes and I have seen positive results from this. My goal is to create student understanding without the typical "memorize and recall" method which I feel is a burden on education and does not promote student learning. I always try and connect their interests to the material, so it is more than just words and starts to be interesting. Chemistry is scary to many people, because they try to memorize, it’s too intricate remember everything. I teach the student to understand why and how substances react or behave. Knowledge of basics, allows the student to solve problems as they are given instead of memorizing specific answers.
