After receiving my teaching degree in May 2004 I was a substitute teacher in Washington State for 6 months. Then I spent the next 27 (Jan. 2005- Apr. 2007)months working as a Teacher Collaborator in the United States Peace Corps. A Little Bit About Me...

During my time at NC State, I worked at the mathematics laboratory for two years. In that short amount of time, I learned as much as I taught. The experience of communicating technical information in a way that is accessible requires a set of skills that, in my humble opinion, will always be in demand.
In mathematics, I was taught early on that in order to prove something you need three things: 1. facts that are obvious/self-evident 2. relate them in a logical way 3. frame these facts and their relationships inside of a theory Engineering is just applied mathematics. I believe that anyone can do it, at their level; the key for an educator is to have sufficient people skills to diagnose the problem areas a given student might have and then address those in the context of solving a given problem.

I like to work through each type of problem step by step creating a blue print of what the student should be doing to solve each type of problem. I then repeat this with another problem of the same type. I like to go through every type of problem like this while they write the steps of how to do the problem down and then try to solve each problem step by step.
