I will tailor my teaching to the individual student. One thing I've learned in my education program is that some kids learn visually while others learn auditorily, and so on. I believe in critical thinking; that is one skill that is lacking in school and in society generally. The task of the teacher, ultimately, is to get their student to that point, where he or she is challenging his or her mental models or basic assumptions concerning reality, with the tools the teacher has given the student.

My teaching style is one where I combine the approach that best suits the individual’s personal learning style with proven sound educational best practices. I have had successes with motivating students who usually do not like to read. I have been able to help them by meeting them where they are and then helping them to formulate and meet their own goals. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated college in 1985 and then pursued many different jobs over the last 25 years. My degree in History/Political Science allowed me to be something of a jack-of-all trades in respect to my career. I have done both office work and factory work as well as customer service. However, my last job is perhaps most relevant to this position, because I was in South Korea for 3 1/2 years teaching English to South Korean children ages 5 to 15. Even though I do not possess formal training or certification in the United States, I learned hands on and developed my own teaching style that was both effective and fun for the kids so that they learned alot, and my boss was happy.
