I have had many experiences in education both during and after my college education. As a Teaching Assistant I led a 50 minute recitation of the material, graded materials, and kept records for my 30 students. As a tutor I helped MSU undergraduates learn key concepts and study for their upcoming exams. I worked in the Algebra room and the Calc I room. Ever since graduating from college and moving to Chicago I make time during my week to volunteer at the Chicago Temple in the Loop to help a child develop reading and comprehension skills in the English language. I invent creative ways and use the scientific method to engage my tutee with learning, such as on one occasion, while reading a literary work by Cuban poet Jose Marti, both the student and I individually drew pictures and diagrams as a way of interpreting the poem, and later shared our ideas with each other.
