My comments on tutoring Accounting : I am a CPA in the state of Ohio. I am teaching accounting at a local college. I have tutored students in accounting.

I want my students to be able to make sense out of concepts. Once they relate to the topic the fundimentals of working with the concepts is more realistic. I general guide the student to help them develope the concepts.
I stated my career as a 7th and 8th grade math teacher in Oberlin Ohio. I taught two years at Beachwood High School, teaching algebra, geometry, physics and calculus. I went back to school to receive my masters in accounting. I work for a large public accounting firm and received by CPA license. From public accounting I started my internal audit career. I believe that instructional strategies should be varied and flexible. Students are unique and their learning styles are different. Teachers need to have varied instructional strategies to try and meet the needs of the diversity of their students. I believe that knowledge of subject matter is extremely important, but not the sole component in instruction. In Mathematics, teachers need to have an understanding of mathematics as well as methods for transferring this knowledge to students. I have loved teaching and still keep in touch with many of my former students. In fact, I have taught many of their children! I seem to end up helping students with more than just their homework. Before taking early reirement in 1997, I taught remedial math to the university freshmen approximately five times between 1992 and 1997. During this same period of time, I also worked as a reading tutor for Project LEARN of Summit County. In 2005,I began teaching undergraduate-level history course for Kent State University as I was working on my dissertation. The courses I taught included Early American History, U.S. Modern History, Ohio History, History of World War II, and History of the Vietnam War.
