I began working with children who were diagnosed with autism my first year of college (I did this for 7 years). I felt a sense of accomplishment as I watched them grow as people. I realized through these experiences that I wanted to help people learn and become accomplished. Later, I decided to student teach in graduate school. I taught three different writing courses over three years, including this past year as a part-time instructor. After two years of outside tutoring, his mother and I decided that I would begin tutoring him. I had his tutor instruct me on his methods and various tools he used for teaching a dyslexic child. I then took over the tutoring and have been tutoring 2-3 times a week ever since. He is now 10 and doing very well in school. I plan to work with him as long as necessary.
