Hello everyone! I would like to think that I'm an all around person, willing to work in many fields. Although most of my educational background is geared towards Psychology, I have plenty of experience with other subjects; the Psychology of learning aids me in being capable to work with other subjects. My past occupational experiences include being a reading tutor for the Memphis Literacy Corps, the Elementary Education Coordinator and Self-Esteem Instructor at Youth Visions, Inc., a youth advisor at St. Paul M.B.C., an actress appearing in several different presentations that include commercials, and being enrolled in a Master's program; I will complete my Master's degree in August 2013. My teaching style is dependent upon the student's learning ability. Typically I am a hands on teacher and enjoy using as many visuals as possible.

I have a B.Sc in Microbiology & Biochemistry, Ph.D in Molecular Biology and over twenty years work experience in academic biomedical research. As a parent, I also appreciate the academic needs of elementary school students and relate well to little ones who are struggling with basic skills. Currently, I teach eighth grade Language Arts. I have taught this subject for almost two years. I teach a regular education class, special education class, and an advanced class. Before that, I taught high school for a year. I am certified to teach any subject within the fourth to eighth grade range. I student taught in fourth grade and I taught seventh grade Science. I love teaching and I love children! I am very kinesthetic and I try to make "real world" connections with my students. I try to instill a love for learning. I am very patient and will do whatever it takes to help the student.

I received my Bachelor's Degree in Writing in 2008 and am graduating this May (2012) with a Master's Degree in Journalism. I worked as a English, Writing, and Grammar Tutor for two years at both my college and graduate school. I have had experience tutoring and writing a variety of styles and genres including creative writing, non-fiction, editorials, poetry, blogs, press releases, and feature articles. Instead of telling the student the correct answer, I prefer to help them understand why the answer is correct. With writing, there can be better ways to word a sentence or rearrange a paragraph and I try to help them figure this out on their own. That way, the next time they run into a similar issue, they remember how they improved their writing the previous time.
