Spanish is my native language. I taught Spanish during the 2006-07 school year at Cimarron Montessori School while also serving as a teacher’s assistant at Monroe Elementary School. The following school year (2007-08) I moved to Bangor, Maine where I worked as a substitute Spanish teacher and substitute Educational Technician at Bangor High School and William Cohen Middle School. I received the highest ratings from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, and plan to pursue certification as a Spanish teacher this year.
Just as language is a component of culture, I like to use culture to help my students learn Spanish. In addition to the typical study of vocabulary and grammar, I like to keep my students interested and motivated through exposure to various elements of Hispanic culture including music, film, food, history, and geography. Working with people, particularly children, has always been a passion of mine. Through the psychology program at Husson College I was able to gain a better understanding of human interaction, interpersonal relationships, as well as to obtain further insight on the foundation of the cognitive wiring in which we all possess. I also have a 6 year old daughter, who I have found to be the key to my drive in watching all children achieve academic success.
