The reason I became a teacher was to transfer my love of music to my students and also to see the joy of their successes. There is nothing like seeing the smile of success on a students face. I care greatly for all students that I have taught and will teach. I first started to study music when I was 11 years old. I grew a love for the clarinet and played for many years in middle school and high school. In college, I majored in clarinet and also studied all wind/percussion instruments as well as piano. I obtained my BA instrumental teaching degree (K-12) through Western Carolina University in June of 2003. Through the years, I have had the privilage and pleasure of teaching band in a classroom setting, marching band, and private lessons.

As a music teacher, I have am well schooled and enjoy teaching all instruments as well as vocal music. I have a thourough knowledge of music and can teach reading, theory, basic improvisation, and technique on virtually band instruments. I currently play the trumpet and sing in church and I love wrking with students at all levels. I have a master's degree in school counseling and can help students apply for scholarships and grants and help them find a school that is suitable to their individual needs and career interests. I can also do career testing and planning to help students determine what their goals and aspirations are and a path to follow to meet these goals. My teaching style is very much like my personality. I am goal oriented and I like to help students set goals and see them achieve them. I don't try to teach beyond my ability, but I do bring out the drive in student

I am very easy to communicate with and I am very outgoing. I firmly believe that anyone can make music if they understand that it requires some practice and some desire to learn. I love seeing a child's face light up when they learn how to play a piece of music or make a sound on an instrument; it is a phenomenal feeling. I felt that I was cheated out of my music education so I try to make it my goal to make sure I do not do the same to other young people. Upon earning my International Baccalaureate diploma in high school, I immediately decided teaching music was what I wanted to do. I attended the University of South Carolina and performed in many professional music ensembles including: USC Orchestra, USC Wind Ensemble, USC Symphonic Band, USC Percussion Ensemble, Palmetto Pans and I also performed and a recorded a full length album with a band that was voted best in Columbia, SC.

I earned my undergraduate degree of History at The College of Charleston. From there I have been teaching various subjects such as math, Algebra, Geometry, World Geography, U. S. History, Economics, Government. I have taught in many middle and high schools throughout SC and NC. During the last five years I have tutored part time while I taught. As a published author, I have extensive grammar skills due to the various publications I was fortunate enought to be part of.
