A Little Bit About Me...

As a valued member of the ANA faculty and team I continually worked to lift the standards and proficiency of all the students that I taught both directly and indirectly to prepare them for the rigors of high school and college. As the English Department Chair I mentored and provided leadership to the staff I supervised as well as my fellow colleagues. I earned a BS in Education as well as a Certification in TESL. During my many years of teaching I have mentored and tutored students in English, History, ESL and Study Skills (which focused on time management, organization, note taking and test taking skills as well as building self-esteem.) I have an extensive background in volunteering and in promoting anti-bullying programs.

Previous students have often remarked on my practical teaching style, relying on real world examples and explanations for business and mathematics. The only way to remember information long term is to relate it to something tangible, especially in subjects like statistics and economics. Relating the ephemeral to the practical is important, and later allows for the information to be used in a real world setting much, much easier.
I have tutored people since third grade, and have recently graduated with my masters in business administration with honors. I graduated in 2009 with my BA in English and am currently pursuing my masters in writing. While at the undergraduate level I learned about all manner of skill in writing from research papers to poetry. I am currently finishing up a Teaching Writing course at the graduate level at the University of New Hampshire. Taking this course has certainly broadened my understanding of writing and more importantly how to teach it. For the spring semester I am continuing on with a Teaching Secondary English course, also at the graduate level. I have certainly helped guide many of my peers and friends with countless papers which along with my own experience has provided me with an expansive knowledge of how to write and how to teach writing.
