During a span of 20 years as reporter, sports writer, copy editor, section editor and editor-in-chief, I trained many new hires -- and even a few veterans -- in spelling, grammar, punctuation, comprehension of written material and in writing. I did not take graduate classes, but I did take the Graduate Record Exam. I scored in the upper 15% in both Verbal and Essay. I do not consider myself a classically trained scholar or academic. I love to teach students of all ages. I love the looks on their faces when I help them get something that they never thought they would learn. I am very patient and love to show them a few short cuts on different things that way it makes it easier for them to learn and comprehend. As a graduate in Accounting, I was given the tools to be able to teach and comprehend a lot of math skills. I am a calm and collected individual, and realize how long it took even myself to grasp some of the harder accounting theories. I believe it all depends on what kind of learner the student is, and how he or she manipulates the information given in text book and lectures to effectively grasp the information themselves.
