While working as an engineer I discovered a passion for teaching and the joy of "sharing" knowledge with others. I am now semi-retired and would like to extend that passion by tutoring in science and mathematics on a part-time basis. I have three engineering degrees as well as teacher certification in secondary science and mathematics. I have taught in a high school and middle school, as well as at the community college level. I am proficient in all areas of mathematics and physical sciences that are offered at the secondary level, and my engineering experience has taught me how to apply these skills as well as communicate effectively in reports and other technical documents. My teaching style includes patience, listening and determination. While teaching at C.S. Lewis I not only taught but also learned. I believe that with children patience is necessary and primary. Then while you may be the teacher you also have to listen in order to instruct properly. Finally being determined because in teaching you have to not allow yourself to give up. Many times students become frustrated and want to quite, you have to be an example of not giving up. If you do this they will see you as an example and learn this behavior. Thus teaching by example, kids are sponges imitating adults and peers. I love children and enjoy working with them. I feel as if each child is different and unique in thier own way, thus when faced with a subject that is more challenging than another it is understandable.
