My teaching style is a combination of techniques I found successful during my educational studies. First, I believe the teacher has to be passionate and have a true love for what he or she is doing; this is passion, or lack thereof, is evident when interacting with a student. Second, patience is of upmost importance. In my experience, nothing inhibits learning as much as a rushed or pressured feeling when one is trying to learn. Finally, it is critical to find a way for the student to relate to the material in a way they understand. Each person is different and the teaching style should reflect that; not everyone fits nicely into a cookie cut template of learning. For the purpose of effectiveness, and to be as organized as possible, I like to start each lesson with material review time. The amount of time spent reviewing depends entirely on two things: 1) the level of the students aptitude, and 2) the amount of material that has been and needs to be covered. If the student has an exam or quiz pending in the near future, the material on the test/quiz gets priority. However, since many subjects in both high school and college have as a requirement a cumulative mid term and/or final exam, it is always in the best interests of all that additional time be spent touching on previously learned topics.
