Most of the struggling students i have encountered seem to have a low confidence in themselves that interferes with their studies. I believe this is due to the manner in which students are tested; in order to fully understand a concept, the student has to be able to explain the concept and its application in his/her own words. By starting from the basic concept of the field of study and working up, the student can acquire real knowledge of the subject.
