**My comments on tutoring Algebra I :** Math was my favorite subject in Middle and High School and if I hadn't majored in Foreign languages, I would've gotten my degree in Secondary Math Education. I enjoy working with unknowns and I love math because I find security in knowing that there is always a right answer.

I am a "kid-at-heart" who has a passion for helping other learn and succeed. I enjoy foreign languages and I want to share my enthusiasm with others. By traveling often, I remain enthusiastic about the subjects I study. Over the past 4 years especially, I have spent many weeks in Germany and France and have fallen in love with the people and their culture. I enjoy finding short stories and comics that help others better understand and learn the language. I also have many supplies from abroad, such as books and DVDs. If I did not major in foreign languages, I would have also enjoyed getting my degree in math education. I like math because I find security in knowing that there is always a right answer. I myself have a teachable spirit and enjoy learning from anyone as well.

2012 college graduate, majored in German language with a French language minor. I tutored foreign languages all ... read more

**My comments on tutoring Algebra I :** I am certified in math 5-9 and have worked with programs like Illustrative Math.

I have a classroom in my apartment actually because I used to teach students in China until the Ministry of education changed. As a result, I have close to four years experience in online teaching with a hardwire Internet connection and lights. I also have a few classroom props that I enjoy using. Students find that I am patient and I have a sense of humor. Having rapport with a student is one of the most important skills, if not the most important skill that a tutor could use.

As a 20 year teacher, I have worked with students from a variety of backgrounds and situations. I enjoy finding ways to help learners accomplish things that they thought were just impossible a few weeks earlier. While, I have worked with all students from K 12 . My primary area has been middle school. With that mentioned, I do online tutoring for students of all ages.

I teach through repetition, practice, and patience. I want to help the student to the best of my ability, and will adapt to the learning style he/she finds most effective.

I have done a lot of tutoring. I have tutored people for the past 4 years. I tutored a little boy with special needs and have taken a class back in high school called "peer tutoring". In this class I would go around and help students in the classes I was assigned to. I took this class for about two years.

Hands on learning with a lot of learning activities.

** Algebra I is one of my top subjects!** I consistently made mostly "A" averages in Algebra I, and scored well in this subject throughout K-12, as well as college.

I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.

I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.

35 years of Engineering Experience. Graduate Engineer with Math beyond Calculus lll; however, flunked my 9th grade algebra class. I didn't get it. I have taught both my children Algebra l in only five hours before taking the class, and they both got "A's". I'm not a teacher, but just a parent who didn't get Algebra l, but understand why I didn't get it, and now know how to teach kids how to simply get it. This method also helped my children get "A's" in advanced math classes, understanding how to learn math.

I will teach what algebra is really about in five hours, the basics. In engineering, a common phrase is KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). Give Algebra l a KISS, get all the basics in the book upfront, and do sample problems in each section of the book. You will then understand all the daily mumbo-jumbo of Algebra l, and just need to do more of the assigned practice problems. ... read more

I believe in inspiring children to be intrinsically motivated to learn. By learning who a child is we, in turn, learn how to teach them. As a preschool teacher I am patient, encouraging, and motivated. My motto is "if at first you don't succeed try again" and it goes not only for the student but also for the teacher. I try to bring in as many outside experiences as possible to help children form connections to what they're learning in school, and the real world. As cliché as it sounds children are the only future we have and we can give them the incredible gift of knowledge and the confidence that they really can do anything.

I believe in inquiry based learning, or teaching any subject by incorporating the student's natural curiosity and drawing connections to their interests. I don't taking a long time to teach a student how to approach a single problem or concept and foster their understanding of the material so that they will understand how to approach the problem on their own. In other words, I put energy into explaining why they should do something so that they can reason through it themselves in a test situation.

I am currently a PhD candidate in Ecology at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Throughout my education and short career I have developed teaching skills through tutoring, teaching labs to middle school students, mentoring high school students and giving informational talks on environmental issues to the public. I enjoy teaching and I feel that I have a gift for explaining science and ... read more

I would describe my teaching style as being essentially constructivist. I strive to show students how the subject matter is relevant to them and help them see the benefit derived from mastering a subject area. I try to analyze the student's learning style and their current weaknesses in order to tailor the instruction to meet their needs. I believe I am patient and respectful. I enjoy teaching in an atmosphere of mutual respect and effort.
