My comments on tutoring Genetics : As a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, I have to say Genetics was one of my favorite sub-topics. It's incredibly fun to teach and the complexities break down easily into a handful of mechanisms. If you need help understanding genetics in high school or college, then I am glad to offer my services!

For tutoring, I prefer face-to-face lessons, because it makes it easier for me to gauge how well the student is understanding the material. I try to explain concepts in a variety of ways to find out how the student learns best, whether through repetition, example, metaphor, application... whatever works! I have tutored kids with all kinds of needs and a few with pretty short attention spans :) For piano lessons, I would use the Alfred library of teaching materials, as that is how I was taught and it works wonders on new learners! In addition to reading music, I would focus on performance techniques and theory as well.

I went into teaching because I enjoy working with children. I do not think of teaching as a job. It is very rewarding to me that I can help children understand complicated material. I make things simple and use things that they already know to build on to get them to understand the material. I like to teach the children pneumatic devices to help them remember the material1. When I instruct the students, I make sure to teach the different learning styles among the children and abilities. Howard Gardener (1983) came up with a theory that there are 8 different learning styles and Carol Ann Tomlinson (2000) came up with a theory called Differentiated Instruction.
