I like to take the dry facts and rules of a subject and engage the students -- primarily through Harkness Mehtod discourse -- on the relevance of the subject and text to contemporary life, whether to absorb material or simply for the learning experience of deconstruction. Having the students write accomplished papers -- essay, research or argumentative -- is always a rewarding experience for myself and my students.

A Little Bit About Me...

Previous students have often remarked on my practical teaching style, relying on real world examples and explanations for business and mathematics. The only way to remember information long term is to relate it to something tangible, especially in subjects like statistics and economics. Relating the ephemeral to the practical is important, and later allows for the information to be used in a real world setting much, much easier.
I have tutored people since third grade, and have recently graduated with my masters in business administration with honors. Teaching is a facilitating process. I believe it is my job to aide the student in developing a more solid understanding of the coursework in front of them. This may involve explaining the same concept to the child in a variety of ways to help them understand. The child may also just require a patient instructor who is willing to keep practicing until they have reached the mastery stage of learning. Whatever the case may be, a high level of patience, understanding and gentle persistence is necessary in order for the child to feel as though they are making progress and not get discouraged.
