I went to University of South Carolina and I helped with some of the teachers with their tutoring sessions. I also helped with tutoring in high school. I have just recently moved to TN and I am looking for a fun and different kind of job where I am able to help people.

While completing my undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at University of Idaho, I was often called upon to tutor people within the building where I lived during college. I also was employed by the University to grade papers and offer assistance to underclassmen in the Chemical Engineering department. From this experience, I have gained both the knowledge in math and science and the understanding of how to use different approaches with different people to deliver the lesson. My teaching style is very matter-of-fact and flexible. Some students learn by listening, others by reading, and still more by doing. It is my job to determine which students need which type of teaching. It's important to never let the student feel I am judging his abilities in a negative manner while still making sure he learns from his mistakes.
When getting my Bachelor's degree, English was my chosen major. I chose the subject because I love to read and write, and excel at both of those things. Starting in high school, I began to tutor grade school and middle school students through an after-school honors program. I have worked with (primarily middle school) students in several volunteer programs through church youth ministries. I had recently held a position as Music Director for Middle School Ministry at Willow Creek Community Church in Dupage, IL for 13 months. While earning my BAS in the Chicago area, I tutored college students in several subjects, mostly Math and Computer Skills for the entirety of the Bachelors program, 26 months. I'm a very laid back casual sort of fellow that likes to make someone think about how to solve problems efficiently. I won't just blurt out an answer to a question hoping they pick up, hands on working through a problem is the best way I've found to solve computer problems. Teaching the student "where" to look to find answers is big help too, there is reference material out on the web for ANY business related task you can think of.
I have 20+ years of real world business IT experience. Most of that was programming on IBM iSeries/AS400 mini computers in RPG or COBOL. The last 6 or 7 years has been devoted to learning HTML & PHP in my spare time. The languages aren't important, what is key is learning to break complex tasks down into smaller chunks and think logically about how to link all these smaller tasks into a program to accomplish the overall goal.
