Vocals is one of my top subjects!

I teach in a laid-back, natural method. We like to have fun! I respect all talented, dedicated & accomplished classical musicians and anyone who reads musical notation. I don't teach sheet music or following musical pieces along as if you were reading instructions. I prefer to get blossoming musicians in touch with the natural way to enjoy music and express themselves. We accomplish this with playing by ear, utilizing musical properties and phrases that work together well, and making a connection with the music and its meaning. For the past six years I have been focusing on Hawai'ian music and Hawai'ian culture. I believe the ukulele is one of the best instruments to introduce children to music, musical theory and the enjoyment of music as a cultural activity.

I have tutored students one-on-one for reading, writing, and math, and have taught private music lessons for voice (since 2005), violin (since 2005), and piano (since 2004). I also taught fourth grade in an elementary school. I have taught children to read before kindergarten (one fluent by age 2-3, one fluent by age 3-4).
