I have a collaborative style of teaching. My ultimate goal is to get students to think, regardless of their age. With younger students, I tend to be much more directive so that we accomplish intended learning. With middle and high school students, I ask "Why" and "How do you know" quite often so that they learn to provide evidence for their thinking. My experience in Title I schools has been very exciting and rewarding. I have been able to use my degree in English as a resource for reading and writing and saw great results as my students' skills and interest levels soared as each year progressed. It's fun to work with special needs children because their thinking and learning styles are so unique. You can virtually see their minds working in interesting fashions.
