My comments on tutoring Entrance Exams : Exams all come down to prep and organization!

I have always approached a teaching lesson as a learning opportunity. Learning is a fundamental skill. If you don't have your basic fundamentals, your student will have difficulty advancing. So, I always start with basic fundamentals such as; note taking, study skills, and comprehension! All sciences demand the ability to link concepts together. Ex. cells make up tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up organ systems,etc.....! By understanding the make-up of cellular structures and relating that to tissue functions the students can fully understand a subject. This proves true with all subjects. By impowering the student with good base fundamentals, my students find it easier to link concepts together.

As a graduate in the world of technology, I believe education never ends. Things change constantly therefore we must continue to educate ourselves. In addition, I have volunteered with high school juniors and seniors to help them through courses such as math, science, computers, and English in their preparation for college. While in college, I also tutored classmates in statistics, algebra, and technology courses. Beyond that, I have learned valuable lessons about teaching others in the various management positions that I have held throughout my career.
Throughout my experience tutoring students, I have learned that everyone has a unique learning style. No single rule applies to teaching someone. I spend time figuring out how a student learns and then adjust my style to their needs. As a graduate, I understand the struggles each individual student may endure throughout their course work. Throughout my years as a student I have worked diligently and now applying to master's and PhD programs for neurological psychology. During the last 5 year, in high school and throughout college I have tutored others that needed help in psychology, algebra, statistics, geometry, and microbiology.
The best way for a person to learn depends on the person, of course. It is well known that people have different leaning styles that work best for them. The best approach for a tutor is to learn which learning style fits the student best. Everything can take into account, for example lighting of the room or even background noise. All students regardless of age should be able to succeed and its a privilege to help students that want to reach their top potential

I have managed staff and senior level executives for more than 12 years. I believe the key to educating anyone is to understand the students learning obstacle and work to simplify the issue. The key here is what is simple to each student will be different on a case by case basis. Additionally, I feel that being engaging, and a little humorous helps keep students eganged in the subject matter. However, I also feel that the best way to learn is to work on practical examples. I personally feel rewarded when students grasp the issues and "see the light".

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all children can learn no matter what their ability level and love to find new ways of presenting information to children. I became a teacher to help children learn because of the help that was given to my youngest brother. He is many years younger than me and has Cerebal Palsy. I helped my mom homeschool him and would love to be able to help other children that need just a little more infomration to understand what they are doing.
As a special education teacher I strive to help all children learn in any way possible. I have my BS from the University of Alabama in Education of Young Children with Diverse Abilities. I have spent most of my life working with children. I began in child care, working with both school age and preschool children. After receiving my Bachelor's degree, I began teaching middle school Language Arts and tutoring at local centers part time. It was as a tutor that I gained experience teaching many different subjects to students of all ages. I tutored students in English, reading, math, study skills, and speed reading. I then went back to school to earn my Master's degree in English Literature. Since then, I have worked at local colleges and universities teaching English, reading and composition.

I believe that every student learns different ways and at different rates. As a teacher it is important to learn these differences in each student and adapt your teaching style to the student. I help my students to explore their surroundings, interests, and subject matter. It has always been my goal to have students enjoy what they are doing and to walk away with a usable skill. A Little Bit About Me...

I'm a strong believer in education and that your attitude will determine your success in all your endeavors, and wish to pass this passion along to others. I love teaching and making a difference in people's lives everyday. I was a tutor during high school in my free time for kids in middle school grades 6-8, a tutor for kids in alternative school, and I also tutored one math student in college. I am currently studying for the Graduate School record examination (GRE), and feel that I am on top of all of my subjects such as writing, reading, and math. Tutoring anyone of any age will only help me build stronger skills for taking my GRE while helping someone ace their classes, so I'm very excited about this opportunity!

I am a firm believer in teaching through discovery and in providing a constructivist approach to learning. As Clay P. Bedford quoted “You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.” This quote is the basis for my enthusiasm when it comes to learning, and one I hope to instill as I teach. Although I do understand that each person learns at a different rate, I apply a customized rational approach to teaching math-based subjects based on the needs and goals of both parents and the student. I used this method successfully when teaching children and adults at community centers as a volunteer and can do the same for your child too.
