Drawing is one of my top subjects! I have a Masters of Art Education from The Ohio State University. I have taught Elementary visual arts for over 33 years, I am proficient and able to teach painting, drawing, print making, relief sculpture, weaving, and other fine arts children would enjoy. I also would incorporate art history and introduce artists who are relevant to the concept being taught.

I am a retired Art Teacher, with a current Ohio Teaching license and 33 years experience teaching Elementary Visual Arts. I am interested in teaching art to students in a smaller setting and provide more individual training and art experiences. I love children and love children’s art, and feel some children best express themselves through the arts.
The arts teach children to make judgments about their environment without a right or wrong answer, and that there are many ways to look and solve a problems. Art is a way for children to express themselves without words in the literal form or numbers as only measured on standardized tests. Meaning the limit of our language does not limit a child’s cognition. I believe the arts teach children to observe and solve problems from many perspectives. Art enables us to have experiences that no other source does. It should be relaxing, hands on, ... read more

My very first teaching experience happened during graduate school, as a second grade teacher. Here, I learned how to implement lesson plans according to state guidelines as well as student's focus. After completing grad school, I was a pre-k teacher for 2 years. I learned how to really teach through play, while considering the children developmental appropriate age. Currently, I work at a prestigious private school as a aftercare teacher for pre-k and kindergartens. I also substitute all grades at Wellington Private School. I try to bring social justice into the classrooms as much as I can.
I enjoy working with students. It is important that teachers see that children learn differently and really accommodate each child as an individual. I began by building a relationship with each child, so I know how they learn and what are all the interests. From there, I facilitate the teaching, ... read more

I try to devote the day to getting kids interested in learning while covering the topics necessary. I cater to each child's needs and abilities and try to use their strength's to help their weaknesses. For example when teaching foreign language, if a child is not as strong in language as they are in math, I try to use formulas to portray language in a more concrete manner. I enjoy working with children of all ages and find that they enjoy working with me due to the enthusiasm I show them.
Since high school I have been aware that I wanted to teach. I am currently pursueing a Masters of Education, and finishing one of my specializations, (French). I have taught for several businesses. I also taught for the Worthington Public School system as a volunteer and teaching asssistant.

More About This Tutor...

While at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh I worked as a tutor in Mathematics and Shop. Much of the time the students did not have an adequate education in high school, so it was necessary to start from scratch. My other duties were to fabricate office equipment and search out tutorials to better explain concepts to struggling students.
Depending on the student I often start from scratch with analogies, diagrams, online tutorials, and simple practice on scratch paper. Usually students will get it after a few sessions, but there are many students that have to be tutored on a constant basis. I teach that effort is necessary for success. A positive attitude is good, but only if it is an afterthought of repetitive practice and focus. I would not tell a student "you can do it" if I knew they could not. Instead we would work together until they could do it.

I won multiple college scholarships based on my portfolio and earned additional merit-based scholarships each year I attended, ultimately graduating Suma Cum Laude. During college I taught Saturday morning art classes to high schoolers--Photography and Senior Portfolio, a class assisting students in applying for art school and scholarships. Since then, I have taught and mentored both informally and formally through my church and Big Brothers Big Sisters Project Mentor program. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the best way to teach students is by utilizing a variety of learning styles. For example, for a visual learner, diagrams and pictures should be used but in order to compliment that repeating audible explanations would be great for someone who is an auditory learner. For any learner, the amount of repeated material provides for good review for students to make connections and the material to be cemented into the human mind.
Having the chance to attend one of the largest universities in the world has truly allowed me to experience opportunties to influence young minds. The difference in my experiences and those of others is that the experiences I come across require much more dedication and devotion simply because it is not related to my field of study. All of the experiences that I became a part of where individually sought out by me throughout all of the required clinical ... read more
