MBA, BS prepared professional looking to tutor

My primary goal is to help students understand the "why" of studies. "Why" do we look for differentials in calculus? "Why" do we describe imagery in poetry instead of just saying how we feel? "Why" do we enter compound keys in some SQL tables but not others? "Why" do we need a conclusion on our essay? If we understand why we do something, we are far more likely to remember how to do it. I also strive to keep the homework the work of the student. They do the work, I guide them to the correct (or at least best) answer. Students are more likely to remember how to complete the problem if they are in the driver seat, not the tutor.

A Little Bit About Me...

Starting my Junior year of High School and continuing until graduation I was a tutor for Algebra which allowed me to interact with students, assist in teaching, and focus on the students that needed more support to reach their full potential. Continuing into college I often led study groups, helped other classmates to better understand the material, and participated in volunteer work to interact with children. I excel in Math, Science, and Business. I excel in Math, Chemistry, Philosophy, Sociology, Psychology, and Business.
"What do you want to be when you grow up?" The life long question...I can remember responding with teaching. Life throws you curves, and I ended up in Business. I still have the desire to educate others and want to dedicate a part of my life to that dream. Each child has a unique way of learning. The key to success is identifying the best techniques. I received an associate's degree in accounting and I am currently enrolled at Kaplan University in the Health Sciences program. I recently finished a course in College Algebra and I tutored four students. I also home schooled both my children from the time they were in grade school until they received their high school GEDs from a local community college. I very much enjoy teaching, especially Algebra.
I feel that everyone has the ability to learn; but we all learn at different rates and in different ways. It is a matter of finding what works best for the learner and having the patience to get them through the fears that come with learning something new...or learning something that has not come easily. I like to use a lot of descriptive words and illustrations which I find are very helpful for many people, and I believe that much repetition is essential for retention of the ma ... read more

I currently teach in an interim classroom for secondary students who have been suspended or expelled. I teach all subjects, but am most comfortable with LA and math. I first started tutoring in high school, both privately and as a volunteer. My favorite subjects to tutor were Algebra and Calculus, though I also tutored Spanish, English, and Biology. I had several regular students and additional students during peak times like finals week and AP season. In college, I continued this work in a more formal setting as a lab assistant, teaching assistant, and tutor for the Grinnell College Science Learning Center. The subjects included CHM 130: General Chemistry and CHM 210: Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry.
Tutoring is one of my favorite jobs. I really enjoy helping students understand that they absolutely can understand a subject, and the one-on-one, focused nature of tutoring fits my personality very well. I am encouraging and very patient, but no pushover: I realize that the best way for a student to remember a concept is to play an activ ... read more

I always believed that all the children are smart and can learn difficult things. For them to do that all they need is a good teacher who can develop their interest in the subject, which will ultimately result in their success. I was successful in doing that with my brother and my cousin and today they both work in IT companies and Software engineers. I am very proud that I could make that difference in their life and hope to make that difference in many more other young children.
As an undergraduate student in India, I used to help my younger brother and cousins with school. Especially being in engineering my Math, Chemistry and Physics backgrounds are very strong. I have never tutored for money but I used to tutor a lot for free. This developed my passion for teaching and even as a graduate student at Univ. of North Texas, I used to teach undergraduate students (including freshme ... read more
