Graduating in April 2002 from Florida State University with a major in Information Studies, I have attained the education necessary for me to succeed in helping students to realize their potential. I am currently teaching remedial reading and Math at Mary Immaculate School located in Key West grades k-8 I have taught bilingual students I have also taught high school level students, Biology, Math, Language Arts, Spanish and fine arts My 20 years of experiences has allowed me to work in urban schools, rural schools and in private schools. I have most recently been trained to teach Adults through Literacy of America as a volunteer. I believe in life long learning and I encourage children to apply themselves to do their very best.I also encourage children to determine what their best learning style is and to apply their learning style to fit their specific needs. For example some children require a more sequential repetitive approach to learning. Other children require a system in which they practice what they know through an oral approach or a hands on approach to learning.

My style tends to range based on who I am trying to teach, and I suppose is most accurately labeled as adaptive. I understand that different people learn things in different ways, and so I try to accommodate that with my teaching. For instance if I found that a student learns better visually then I would attempt to use visual cues and examples in lesson plans to make the material as easy to understand as possible. I also believe in keeping a very loose and pleasant atmosphere, and making sure that everyone feels comfortable and safe, which I believe also assists in the learning process. My first major mentoring/teaching experience occurred in college when I began leading study groups and eventually organizing tutoring sessions with a number of my fellow English, Calculus, and Physics students. I am able to relate to students using their learning style and references that connect them to the material for better success. I am patient and use my sense of humor to figure out how a student learns to get the best results. I do not believe that one method works for everybody. I have a lot of experience with students with learning challenges. I love it when a student says "Wow." I like to support and reward their path to understanding. It's best when you see that they are proud of themselves and they did it!
